TRUTH OR MYTH
Dropping the facts on Abraham Lincoln

There is good reason why the Lincoln legend has taken on such mythical proportions: Much of what Americans think they know about Lincoln is in fact a myth.

Myth #1: Lincoln invaded the South to free the slaves. Lincoln wrote: "My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and it is not either to save or destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave, I would do it"

Myth #2: Lincoln's war saved the Union. Editorials from the North and South agreed that the Union depends on the free consent and will of the sovereign people of each state. When that consent and will was withdrawn the Union disappeared.

Myth #3: Lincoln championed equality and natural rights. Lincoln himself exclaimed, “I have no purpose to introduce political and social equality between the white and black races. I am in favor of the race to which I belong having the superior position.”

Myth #4: Lincoln was a defender of the Constitution. Quite the contrary, generations of historians have labeled Lincoln a "dictator.” One wrote, "Dictatorship played a decisive role in the North's successful effort to maintain the Union by force of arms.” Lincoln consistently showed blatant disregard for the Constitution.

Myth #5: Lincoln was a "great humanitarian" who had "malice toward none." This is inconsistent with the fact that Lincoln micromanaged the waging of war on civilians, including the burning of entire towns populated only by civilians; massive looting and plundering; rape; and the execution of civilians.

Myth #6: War was necessary to end slavery. During the 19th century, dozens of countries, including the British and Spanish empires, ended slavery peacefully. Only in America was war associated with emancipation.

In sum, the power of the state ultimately rests upon a series of favorable myths about our rulers. Nothing serves this purpose better than the Lincoln myth.

BOTM
John Wilkes Booth wrong:
Was Lincoln’s death justifiable?

Booth was an actor and Confederate spy from Maryland. It's said that after attending a speech in which Lincoln promoted voting rights for blacks, an outraged Booth plotted the president's assassination. Booth completed the task and escaped. Nine were tried and convicted in the assassination plot - four were hanged. Booth committed the dirty deed by sneaking up behind the President and firing point blank into the man's head with a single-shot, round-slug 0.44 caliber Derringer. Booth then leaped to the stage and shouted "Sic semper tyrannis!" (Latin: Thus always to tyrants) Booth was either killed by Union solders or lived on for many years, depending on who you ask.

BOOK REVIEW
The Real Lincoln: A New Look at Abe’s Agenda, and an Unnecessary War

This is the book encouraging a nationwide revision concerning the man believed to be a great liberator. Dictator and slayer of liberty is more like it. Lincoln was not the godlike figure of myth and legend but an unusually cruel political operator. Thomas DiLorenzo calls for a complete rethinking of a central icon of American lore. Through extensive historical investigation, DiLorenzo shows that the high tariff pushed by Northern industries, at the expense of Southern agriculture, was the main cause of the sectional conflict. Further, Lincoln's goal in preventing Southern secession was the consolidation of federal power and the collection of revenue, not the elimination of slavery. Available at mises.org

WITHOUT CONSENT
Nevada: Forced into statehood by Abraham Lincoln

Did you know that Nevada was created illegally by Evil Abe? Forcing Nevada into statehood insured that Lincoln would have easy access to the hordes of silver and gold coming out of the Nevada region. He also thought it would help his re-election bid. At first there were those who argued against Lincoln - but that didn't last as Lincoln the dictator built a reputation for locking up any outspoken dissenters. Would Nevada now be able to opt out of the Union on the technicality that the Silver State was created in violation of the US Constitution? As Nevada is home to more million ounce gold mines than anywhere in the world, wouldn't it be to Nevada's advantage to cut ties with the bankrupt US government? Will Nevada mines be safe when the dollar tanks and gold hits $4,200?
