KFC OR WHITE
Checking the head of a great guitarist
Buckethead has whitened his bucket. That being the bucket he has worn on his head for as long as he's been shredding his guitar. He used to wear a KFC bucket with a sticker reading "FUNERAL," now he wears a stylish all white bucket.
The bucket switch makes for an interesting transition. Has he purified himself, is he born-again, or just cleaning up his act (those KFC Buckets can get pretty greasy). Since Buckethead doesn't talk, it's hard to say.
His guitar playing has changed as well. While the skill levels of many guitarists tend to plateau or diminish, Buckethead's speed and technique continues to improve. And the emotion in his soloing is unmatched.
If you haven't been turned onto Buckethead yet, check out "Soothsayer," a song that's hard to find on CD but easy to find on YouTube.com, "Jordan" from the video game Guitar Hero II, or "Nottingham Lace" off Enter the Chicken.
The bucket and mask worn by the speechless star keep him outwardly youthful. And his inventive approach to music insures him a lifetime of success. Is the bucket change an unsung metaphor? Without a doubt Buckethead is "a real talent to watch."

PRAXIS
An ever-changing musical project
In 1992, Buckethead, with Bill Laswell, Bernie Worrell, Bootsy Collins, and Bryan "Brain" Mantia, formed the
supergroup Praxis. Their first album, Transmutation (Mutatis Mutandis), released the same year, was well-received. Led by Laswell, a prolific producer, Praxis combines elements of different musical genres such as funk, jazz, hip-hop and heavy metal into highly improvised music. The group has worked with many other artists such as Serj Tankian from System of a Down, Iggy Pop, and Les Claypool of Primus fame. When Laswell was unable to play a date with Praxis, Claypool asked to jam with Brain, Worrell, and Buckethead. Thus forming a new supergroup called Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains.

THE COACH HOUSE
San Juan Capistrano, CA
Dinner reservations get priority seating at this intimate venue. It's set up like a beer hall and accommodates about 500 people. The place was jam-packed April 22, 2006, for Buckethead. He played a long show to an all-ages crowd. The kids were wearing buckets and kneeling on benches to get a good look at their hero. Pinchface was on the drums. Buckethead closed the show with a string of Jimi Hendrix tunes, replicating the famous Woodstock "Star Spangled Banner" to a tee, and then ending with his take on the "Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

MONSTERS AND ROBOTS
Buckethead and Les Claypool!
Said to be Buckethead's best selling solo album to date, Monsters and Robots was released April 20, 1999, and is his 5th studio album. A large part of the album was co-written with Les Claypool, who also plays bass on several tracks and lends his vocals to the track "The Ballad of Buckethead." Buckethead toured briefly with Claypool's band Primus to promote this album. It's one of his best! ! His modus operandi continues to improve though, and inevitably the best is yet to come.
